Fitness plans are mental!

Yes in fact everything you do is mental!!

To get fit you have to think it first , see it in your minds eye long before you start taking action.

Our thoughts are things, they are the seed of everything you create in your life.

Look around you at the people you hang with and the material things you possess.

Why do they appear in your life? Because you thought about them and wanted them to be there, which led to your taking the steps to having them.

So if you think about being fitter and can see your self running, cycling, weight training, and being committed to eating well and self disciplined, guess what, you are more likely to achieve just what you can see!

Then we can look at just what you need to do to achieve it.

Be a mentalist and see what you CAN achieve.

Ouch! 6 top tips to avoid injury!

I’m on bbc radio lancashire again today , talking about injuries,

So I thought I would just blog it for those who will miss it…

How frustrating, you know the scenario , your all fired up and ready for the next weightloss fitness mission, 2 weeks in and ping !! A flaming injury, why you ask ? Just when I’m feeling good and in control?

Well the key here (annoying as it sounds) is prevention!

Plan what your going to do and think about the energy and strength it requires to do it properly. My top tips would be..

1. When you start something new go and have a physio mot, just to give you confidence and a heads up as to what your Achilles heel (pardon the pun) may be and what to strengthen or stretch.

2. Get a well devised strength plan to address weak areas and equal out any imbalances.

3. Get a plan in your chosen activity be it running cycling mountain trekking etc.

4. Gradual progression , ensure your chosen plan progresses at a rate your body can handle , too much too soon can cause all kinds of problems.

5. Follow the plan and don’t be tempted to run before you can walk … Literally.

6. Keep your flex appeal – stretching out the tight muscles can be so simple and very effective at avoiding injury.

Exercise can be the most rewarding thing you do , so keep it safe and effective and you will enjoy it a whole lot more.

Keep moving !

27 Ways to Run Better Every Day | Active.com

27 Ways to Run Better Every Day | Active.com.

You know if you read my blog often that I truly believe we are all a product of exactly the sum of our thoughts,

and that although I’m a physical trainer I believe it all starts in the mind and that the training is the easy bit ,

get your thoughts together and see what you want then plot your action and go get it,

life and its challenges are an on-going process and so if you feel I often repeat what I’m saying here, its because I’m often thinking that way, often reminded by people I spend time with that focussing on the problem is the problem.

Question … what do you spend most of your time thinking of ?

Is it a problem that you need the answer to?

If you trust in your intuition you already have the answers, just go and find the courage to take the required path.

What are you thinking ???

You already know the benefits of regular
exercise and a healthy well balanced diet right?
But that doesnt mean you do it, does it?
take 5 minutes and read through to see if that can all change … starting today!

So I thought about a little trick I can give you to help, and when
practiced it can be the difference between where you are now and
where you want to be….
so as I’m training in NLP – neuro linguistic programming
(the way our thoughts and our language
affect our behaviours) I was thinking about visualisation.

When youtrain your brain to want to do exercise then your exercise
sessions are amazingly effective.

Visualisation is something you do unconciously, probably daily,
and what it means  is to see what you want before it has actually
happened (not like a premonition ha ha :) ).

Your brain is a very powerful machine and if you mentally rehearse
what you need to do and visualise the end result, you will know
what to do and how to do it- because in your mind you have already done it.
When you become aware of your thoughts and conciously control them
and create images of what you want then the actions will start to come about.

To do this effectively, when you sit quietly visualising
you must mix  it with the emotions you feel when you see your
goal accomplished , imagine exactly in full colour all the things
you will feel , see , smell, hear and even taste.

Connect it to all 5 senses and you have created a mental pattern
and triggers to make physical changes.

You become what you think about most … if you think about exerecise ,
how it feels during and after in a positive way and imagine the
end result, often, are you more or less likely to start
to take the action that makes you feel so good?

On the flip side if you think about your weight problem and worry
what not to eat, feeling miserable, feeling fat, then what action, if
any, are you training your brain
to do?

So {!firstname_fix} use your brain for the positive things you
desire and see in even 1 month from now with setting, visualising
and mentally rehearsing your goals, just wht you can achieve,

I’d love to know how this works for you,

Just wait a minute… I wouldnt!

Happy New Year

Hope you’ve had a great festive seasonwith the people you love most :)

Well I kept my little booty moving up in the lakes , climbed Cat bells , Grasmere, Skiddaw , tried a bit of indoor climbing , did some crazy dancing and squeezed in a couple of 4 mile runs ;-) yes im proud of myself yes im showing off too! as last year I just got wobbly sitting on aeroplanes and eating !!

The sense of goodness you feel from ‘just doing’ is so worth the head battle to start with.

Well if like many you want to get going, and know you will get going, sometime soon,  then I hope reading this makes it that little bit sooner,

to be a little bleak and miserable .. every hour that passes you can never take back , do what feels right and fight the lazy demon.

we are what we do most often as I hear myself repeat daily, consistancy is king , little and often rather than do everything or do nothing.

when you have read this get on with being what you want to be … tick.. tock.. tick.. tock ,

I’m going to stop right now and let you go

Do you need to wait till the New Year to make resolutions?

Do you need to wait till the New Year to make resolutions?

It’s up to you of course, But can I ask why??

There is an hour glass on us all and the sands run at the same speed, how much we have is a guess at best, but what you choose to spend your sand on is up to you, and is what makes the difference in the quality of our lives.

Don’t waste time , don’t put things off , If something is bothering you or you feel stuck in a situation you wish you could change, be it your weight, fitness, or any area of life- you can change it all right now, this minute.

It’s true to say that you are where you are today because of  the decisions you have made  every day of your life (a decision not to do anything is still a decision) .

Ask yourself what you can do right now to make yourself happy whatever your definition of happy is , what is it you really want? What tiny action will take you in the right direction?

If you just take one positive decision right now, a positive decision tomorrow and the day after , within weeks you will see  your life start to gradually move in the direction you want it to. Consistent positive decisions followed by consistent positive actions are the key.

Remember that it’s the small things done often that make massive changes in the long term.

‘Inch by inch lifes a sinch – yard by yard life is hard’

It could be making a phone call, it could be taking a walk, it could be deciding what to eat, or as big as quitting your job. Whatever will make  a difference to you today don’t put it off , you are only trading your time for frustration.

Its amazing how much control we have of our lives but never actually take control  believing that we are driven by others and external influences, and I suppose we are …but by choice.

Go grab life and be what you want to be, its your life your sand!

I am choosing a good day how about you? My grains have run away writing this as yours have reading it, but I believe it if makes just one person which maybe you, realise the potential of your own decisions I will spend my grains with you willingly.

Would you like a fitter christmas and a leaner new year?

12 days of fitness training even in the snow!!

Aaargh I have just seen my first christmas tree !! What does this mean? Well because im miserable about christmas- it makes me frown, not good for my wrinkles.

However on a more positive note it also means  the end is nigh for sure, which I kind of like (I will explain why in a minute) , so question … are you(and I) going to finish 2010 strong and then start the new year even stronger?

Its not too late to give yourself that final goal of the year, and with all that shopping ahead you can get fit whilst you shop. Use all stairs in the shopping malls, even drag out your dusty pedometer and shop till you drop, or reach 10,000 steps. Make lots of trips to the attic hiding the kids pressies. Hand deliver all your christmas cards. Blitz the house for xmas get togethers, no excuses, there may be more opportunities to keep active in December .

If you prefer oficial goals and achievements there is also the Ribble Valley 10k around boxing day and a duathlon in January that I know of too.

Make it your mission  however you do it , to look and feel as good as you can be this christmas :) then we can plan ahead for 2011 which is always my favourite part of the year .. oh im excited thinking about planning , planning , planning … mmmm must get something done about that!

Have the greatest day

Aimie :)

Oh and on a final note (and this wasn’t the point of this little article by the way), if you need an extra kick up the deriere,  12 days of fitness bootcamp is pretty darn full now but if you ask really nicely I may just squeeze you in!

ALL diets do work!

All diets work,

Why?? All diets faddy or otherwise are designed to look at the amount of food you are taking in,

They all have one thing in common , they create a deficit in the amount you eat. Whether that means , cut back on carbohydrates , fat  or  vegetables , they are all cutting out some element of what you eat. which means you (if you dont get bored) will lose weight if you put in less fuel(calories) than you use

Food combining , low carb diets may have research into weight loss and how the body metabolises the different food types, but does that change the basic principle? No … it shifts your focus onto ‘bad’ foods and ‘good’ foods.

The truth of the matter is that we need all the food groups in the right amounts for our bodies to remain healthy and function well. Society is lazy no two ways about it, your body is fantastic at saving energy and searching for new ways to make life easier. Which is why we see advances ion technology all the time.

We are also our own worse enemy. We try to save energy becoming super efficient and cram a weeks work into a day … to earn more money increase productivity so we can …?? well, have more physical material things , that make life easy , have holidays to de stress and sit on a beach  winding down ready to rev back up into the demanding society we live in.

Getting back to the point, all diets will work , but are they sustainable? who do you know who has stayed on a low carb diet or food combining, milkshake diet, without it being a chore and the guilt of falling off the waggon at weekends? Not many I reckon!

Food is fuel , enjoy it, balance it and stop obsessing about it.

Decide to rebel against the 21st century and start spending your stored up energy, move around at every opportunity , trust your insticts on food and eat when you are ready to eat not by the clock.

See what happens . Ditch all the diet books and rememebr to eat whole natural foods in the way they were intended to be eaten. Pulverised refined and processed foods are tat. Keep it natural and eat for your energy levels, if you do little exercise or have a sedentary job why do you need more?

Common sense approach to food is what works. Stop the extra stress you put on yourself , stop fighting your body, stop punishing it with overeating/undereating/binge eating. Be your own best friend.

Enjoy the great outdoors whatever the weather ,  use your wii fit , have fun, dance more,  feel the freedom of movement , use the moveable joints you were blessed with.

Dont wait till you weigh less to start exercise , thats a backwards principle that I have heard many clients tell me, they wanted to wait until they were fitter to join an exercise class… hello ?? I understand that you may feel less fit than other class memebers but honestly do they care? are they there for the same reasons? you are just the same as everyone out there. The stumbling blocks are the ones you create in your mind, whichincidently,  if i remember rightly… you control ? now thats another topic for another day , which is just as important , but for today- just eat what you know is right and go and move around and have fun.

Have the greatest day

Aimie :)
